Savasana
Savasana literally means "corpse pose." A little grim for what's usually the favourite part of a yoga class, but there it is: it's the final relaxation, lying on the floor, that closes the practice.
How to prepare it
- The space — find somewhere you won't be interrupted for the next few minutes. Silence your phone — not just the volume: the screen lighting up is distracting too.
- The posture — lying on your back, legs slightly apart and relaxed out to the sides, arms away from the body with palms facing up. If your lower back bothers you, you can place a cushion or a rolled blanket under your knees.
- Temperature — the body cools down quickly once it stops moving. Keep a light blanket or a jumper within reach.
- Sound — headphones help block out surrounding noise and make the voice feel closer, but they're not essential.
- Light — if you can dim it or turn it off, even better. Not essential, but it helps.
